PRAYER

Prayer Requests – Please pray for everyone delivering the vaccine.

Please pray for our empty Church Buildings and for our Circuit Ministers Rev Joe Adams, Rev Ken Chalmers and Rev Alan Jenkins.

Continue to pray for all others who are in any way troubled, lonely, unwell or bereaved and anyone else who needs our prayers.

NOTICES

With the introduction of Lockdown 3, the probability of us being able to gather again in the near future is rather low. We all need to make sure that when invited we make a point of attending for vaccination. Admittedly while we are not using the Church some of our outgoings are lower but we still need to try to keep our income up for future use particularly in being able to meet our future Circuit assessments and I know that this situation is a problem for all of the Circuit churches. Thank you to all those people who have continued to pass their regular offerings on to me. Should anyone else have collection envelopes or donations which they would like to pass on then I can arrange to pick them up in a suitable precautionary way. My telephone number is 545083. While watching the news and seeing all the wonderful doctors and nurses on the frontline in the fight against the covid pandemic and then listening to the nay sayers and the covid deniers this wonderful quote by Theodore Roosevelt, delivered as part of a speech in 1910, sprang into my mind. This is my tribute to our heroes, men and women.

The Man in the Arena

It is not the critic who counts;
not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles,
or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.
The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena,
whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood;
who strives valiantly; who errs,
who comes short again and again,
because there is no effort without error and shortcoming;
but who does actually strive to do the deeds;
who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions;
who spends himself in a worthy cause;
who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement,
and who at the worst, if he fails,

NOTICES

Scammers – please be aware if you receive a phone call or an email from someone saying they are from Public Health England and asking for your credit card details for they are scammers and thieves. You will be contacted when it is your turn to receive the vaccine and it will be free. Thank God for the NHS.

A New Carol

Oh silent and yet sacred night
When Christ the King was born,
When angels sang of peace on earth
Greeting the holy dawn.

For unto us a child is born
To us a son is given
We see the human face of God
When Jesus comes from heaven.

God loved the world so very much
He sent His only son;

A Christmas Prayer

O God our help in ages past,
Our hope in years to be,
Look down upon us now
And see our need of Thee…

For in this age of Coronavirus
With danger all around,
We need Thy hand to lead us
To a higher, safer ground.

We need Thy help and counsel
To make us more aware
That our safety and security
Lie solely in Thy care.

And so we pray this Christmas
To feel Thy presence near
And for Thy all-wise guidance
Throughout the coming year.

First, give us understanding,
Enough to make us kind.
So we may judge all people
With our heart and not our mind.

Then give us strength and courage
To be honourable and true,
And place our trust implicitly
In unseen things and You…

And help us when we falter
And renew our faith each day
And forgive our human errors
And hear us when we pray.

And keep us gently humble
In the greatness of Thy love,

WAR ARMISTICE

For The Fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
