Christian Aid Week

Message from Seeking God’s Blessing for Colchester

Sierra Leone is the world’s most dangerous place to give birth, with 10 women dying in childbirth every day. Bishop Roger Morris is walking in solidarity with mothers like Jebbeh, who is featured in the publicity for this year’s Christian Aid Week campaign. His journey from St Andrew’s Earls Colne to Colchester Hospital is roughly the same distance as that recently made by Jebbeh’s sister Fatama. Due to a shortage of ambulances and health workers, when Fatama went into labour she had to make a 9 mile journey in the searing heat to her nearest hospital. Jebbeh told us “my sister was crying out with hunger. She died on the side of the road. She never gave birth.” Now rather than being filled with joy, Jebbeh is overcome with fear at the prospect of giving birth. We believe that all mums should live, and this Christian Aid Week we are raising funds and awareness for people like Jebbeh. You’re invited to join in this walk of solidarity to raise awareness for Christian Aid Week. We will be gathering at St Andrews on Friday 10th May at 10am and will arrive at Colchester hospital by 3pm, stopping for a jacket potato buffet in West Bergholt at 1.15pm.

NOTICES

Note from Geoff – Church Treasurer- I have been looking at our likely costs of running the Church in the next year. I estimate that after allowing for possible income from Lettings & Gift Aid Tax refund our costs will be in the order of £18,500. To avoid drawing on our reserves this amount needs to be met from our collection income. Assuming that we have 30 regular people attending and contributing via the collection, collection envelopes or monthly bank contributions this equates to £11.80 per person each week. If there are only 25 people involved then the figure increases to £14.20 per person per week. Please may I request that everyone reviews their level of giving to the Church.
